Adjustable Control to Vary Music or White Noise

Experimenters seemed to gain most control over music and white noise with this wiring of earphones.  Different colored knobs on adjustable resistors may be helpful. Much like  setting separate eyepieces on binoculars.

Like two speakers playing the same audio and you stand in middle between and adjust volume to cancel audio waves from personal hearing? Perhaps, if we hear with both ears together more use ears separately- this could give advantage to some listeners?
