In the parallel circuit it is better to have a separate resistor in series with each LED. This helps ensure even brightness. Also, with a single resistor, if a LED goes open circuit the remaining LEDs increase in brightness, perhaps being overloaded and then breaking too. Another reason, if one led goes short circuit none light up and series resistor may be overloaded.
