This circuit demonstrates the power coming into your house. The orange sine wave is the 240 Volts that peaks at 339.4 Volts. The green and blue sine waves are the 120 Volts that peaks at 169.7 Volts. If you were to touch one of the electrical wires even if it were on a 240 Volt plug. The electric shock you feel would only be 120 Volts because you touching the wire is referenced to ground. I have heard people say they got shocked by 220 or in this case 240. It was actually 120.
