EC is Awesome - But it seems to have a problem with series capacitance and the bode plot.

I have noticed that the bode plot doesn't seem to function properly with respect to series capacitance. Flip the two switches to include a series capacitance. Pick any value you like. With the series capacitor in place, the bode plot does not function properly. Whereas, if you run the simulation without bode plot, you can manually sweep from say 1 kHz to say 7 kHz and you do see that the filter functions correctly. So this problem is an artifact of the bode implementation. Actually, it's simply that the bode plot appears not to function at all with series capacitance when fed from the EC signal generator. CONTEXT: I was trying to explain to a musician that his amplifier had a passive tone control that would be affected by his Ibanez Tube Screamer clone. This a fairly normal problem with passive tone controls on guitar amplifiers. The series capacitance at the output of the guitar effect can affect the passive tone stack. So I thought I'd show the musician what I was talking about using EC. AMAZING: The amazing thing here is that EC let's me show problems to clients very quickly on my phone. Except, that my simulation failed to show him the problem! I will also say that EC is my favorite mechanism for capturing circuit ideas. The value of EC would be dramatically increased by allowing me to export circuit blocks to other software tools that I use. I would pay for such an export function and this, I believe, would transform EC into a more professional product. SIMULATION TOOLS: EC is such a great tool. If I tried putting together a similar simulation in a SPICE SIMULATION Program such as LTspice or even the amazing open source (non SPICE) QUCS, it would take me ten times the time to set up. Also, I'd need to do this on a laptop etc. Even if I have an LTspice simulation working, it doesn't do real time adjustments of values and all SPICE model programs have a completely horrible user interface. BRILLIANT USER INTERFACE: EC has a wonderful and completely intuitive user interface. There's nothing on the planet that is as quick to use for capturing circuit ideas. For this reason, it's a shame that there's no export function. This would allow me to output circuit blocks to other software tools that I use. EC is absolutely necessary for my life now! So this is no attack against EC. Quite the reverse! However, I would like this problem fixed. Does anyone have an explanation? Does anyone use EC for work? Does anyone have any constructive comment? Yes its awesome. Caps needs a defined DC level on both ends. Just put a giga Ohm in paralell to make bode happy ;-) http://everycircuit.com/circuit/5799529946808320

Thanks Hurz! OK so I can use EC without worry for this type of thing. I did do a QUCS simulation, just to see what would happen. Qucs doesn't get phased by series capacitance (pun intended)

BUT.... It took me 45 mins to get the QUCS simulation to work. Not intuitive UI and very annoying just like LTspice

I like EC and LTspice

LTspice is great. Its free and has a whole library of real components setup. What i don't like is the user interface. EC is much better in this respect. Have you tried QUCS? It was in the Ubuntu repositories, but now you have to add a ppa

No i did not tried it. Im happy with the tools i m using. Good to see!

Exporting would be absolutely awesome .. You have to root your phone to get to the netlists and other stuff

Can you explain how the bode plot is done on EC? I cannot find an explanation anywhere
