Three different ways to wire field coil on alternator are shown at bottom. Top three coils are alternator STATOR coils connected to diode array with right side output from diodes as alternator output. This is wired the same for all of different field coil wirings. Lower horizontal coil is FIELD or ROTOR coil and lamps to represent ring connectors to turning ROTOR windings. Notice three ways shown at bottom to hook up field coil. First, we can have two field wires and separate ground connection. Second, one side of field ring is grounded with one wire as field connection. Third, alternator output is sent through field windings and out field wire.
