Stereo AM

Don't shake! Will autostart! Some of you will notice some extra circuitry. Dont mind it it's just there to better visualise stuff on the graph. A simple way to implement stereo Amplitude Modulation. Instead of using a different carrier for the second channel thus overcrowding the limited electromagnetic spectrum you can just mix the two modulations into one. Since we usually take only one sideband of the AM and reject the other why not use the extra sideband? Just cut the negative half of one channel the positive half of the other and mix them. There you got it. One channel takes up the positive sideband the other takes the negative sideband. Then when demodulating it you can tune to only 1 frequency for the 2 channels effectively demodulating 2 signals from 1. Advantages: -Allows for stereo AM on 1 channel - Preserves limited bandwidth resources - Allows for more information to be send on 1 channel (multiplexing) - Can be used for both analog applications and digital Disadvantages: - it depends how you're reviewing this but it both simplifies the receiver and somewhat complicates it. For instance you don't have to tune to 2 different channels to get the stereo but you still have to demodulate two different waves. So this is neither advantageous nor disadvantageous just more of a fact. Just adding some extra circuitry on expense of another. - Complicates the transmitter circuitry.

This is polar modulation. A similar scheme here:http://everycircuit.com/circuit/4614315353047040

I'm not sure it's the same. Yours looks like normal AM acquired through some means. Mine is expanding the efficiency of a single AM channel so that it can be used as a stereo transmitter using only 1 carrier.

The scope is satisfying to me. Haha

Pretty! I'm not sure it's practical though. Both sidebands are needed to lock on to the signal. I don't know how your scheme would affect that.

@eekee, unfortunately its just an idea of @thebugger and wont work. He likes to promote ideas as real solutions. This one as many other are just fairy tails and nonsense. Put a high pass at antenna and see what the transmitter signal would look like.

@hurz: ah yes, it just mixes the 2 inputs together.
