Or you could just have used two switches in parallel instead of all this trash ;)

@waleedyasin you mean two switches in series right? Switches in parallel would make a OR gate.. The switches in this circuit merely represent 5 volt logic sources that you can't always just put in series together.. Think microcontroller, alarm system or sensors.. You might need the individual logic of each signal separately as well as take action if BOTH signals are "on", thus the need for a AND gate.
