Simple - 4 x 6vdc - 12vdc Supply - Battery Series / Parallel Configuration (This Example Accommodates Software Limitations*) [*The Software requires the addition of a resistor or diode in the circuit to prevent a short from occurring, while a circuit short would NOT occur in "the real world".]

In the real world the wiring acts as a resistor and can overheat and burn out if the batteries are badly miss matched. A circuit to allow battery switch out for service and change out; http://everycircuit.com/circuit/4700243489980416

I agree with you that the wiring does have nominal resistance; however, the software doesn't accurately account for the internal resistance of the batteries. Unlike other power sources, such as a mains, battery power doesn't exist in a vacuum since the source is integral to the entire circuit vs. an external supply. The software appears to be designed to make the various power supplies produce Watts in a vacuum without considering how the source itself affects the circuit. I don't know if the software designers ever considered incorporating a variable "Internal Resistance" setting for batteries, but I think they should since the batteries serve as, "resistors" in this & many other series / parallel applications.
