its not a bridge rectifier, but more importante 240VAC are 339Vpeak and needs a higher transformation ratio, check this. A bridge can ne made for this but to understand i just removed the not needed diodes, and corrected the mains voltage http://everycircuit.com/circuit/5455812804476928

Ok, slowly.... lets take a look at the mains AC source. You say its 240VAC this needs a configuration of 339Vpeak and NOT only 240Vpeak. 240VAC is an RMS value and as sine wave it does need a √2 = 1.414 higher peak voltage! Is this so far clear?

@dpw, was that to much for you, ask if you need help. So much, your digital multimeter connected to the mains will show you for sinewave the RMS value and not the peak value which is much higher. There are users here who recommend to measure mains with a scope but this i can not recommend. So 230VAC on a DMM are with a scope 325Vpeak ! Hope this helps

@ Hurz I’m sorry if this circuit is giving u lack off sleep. Its just for simulations purposes please don’t take it too seriously, I agree don’t plug any scope or underrated items into any mains power supply, please fell free to demonstrate the full workings of a main - 24v dc converter

i dont expect any good result in real if you dont take simulation serious.
