I think you get the idea. Each 18.5V source represents a typical 18V lithium ion tool battery. (Updated to fix IC supply range)

Did you get inspired by one of my old circuits? 🤔 Anyway you're going to blow un the 555 like that, it can't withstand voltages above 18V

All I really did here was use a 555 as an inverting Schmitt trigger rather than a simple NOT gate. I agree that it's derivative but I didn't exactly copy and paste it either. If my circuit is actually an apparent facsimile of yours, I yield full credit to you, but I can assure you it it was a coincidence. As for the overvoltage at the timer, you're absolutely right. The absolute max rated working Vcc is 18V. Although I don't think destruction is necessarily assured at 18.5V, ignoring the device specs is certainly bad form. I know the 555 data sheet backwards and forwards so yes, I do know better. I suppose I can just drop the excess across an ON indicator LED or something.

A battery rated at 18 volts nominal is usually 21 volts max.

I never said you had copied to me, on contrary I was hoping someone had at least seen it

If you put a resistor in the feed back line to the trigger, threshold it still works, but reduces its voltage.
