This diagram shows 4 signal heads each with 3 aspects. The three switches at the bottom simulate a train in the block. When the switch is open, a train is detected. With a model layout Reed switches can be used with magnets for train detection or IR sensors, or any other means that effectively acts as the switch in this diagram.
