This circuit demonstrates the versatility of 555 timers. 

I've added AND logic gates and a counter which introduces additional features, once again adding to the versatility of the 555 timer chip. 

Press the push button to turn the circuit on and begin the flashing sequence.

Yes lenzrulz, this does demonstrate the 555 ability to combine withe other components. Now please don't take this personal, merely a critique. But the circuit purpose, "rapid flashing LEDs" can be done with the 555 without the additional cost and numerous points of failure.
