When you have too many resistors and only one transistor. I actually made a 4 bit one. I hooked it up to the raspberry pi and my speaker amplifier. I wrote a little C to read a .wav and then played some music. It was neat. Would recommend to a friend. I think im going to make a simple successive approximation dac next. Probably after finals..

Hmm do you think that it may have been clipping? Also a lowpass filter really helps because the large voltage steps generate unwanted high frequencies. I wonder how much better 5 bits is. 2x the values..

4 bit digitized sound on the C64 sounds in similar quality: https://youtu.be/pixcjhqLq34 I think the main issue was the low sample rate, of course the low pass filter would also help.
