According to my power electronics professor, it's not a power source if it doesn't have a transformer

Almost 6 Watts of power is being dissipated by the 5k resistor to supply 40mW, and because any break in the negative rail will bring the rest of the circuit to mains potential, not only is it not a powersupply it is dangerous, do not try this at home.

104pF ... yes its written on your capacitor 104 and its meaning is 10* 1*10^4= 100000pF = 100nF
