Buck discontinuous mode. This happens because L is small. Despite it reaches same output, current in inductor reaches high values than in continuous mode. Try seing current on inductor this way. Then, change L to 500 uH and modify duty cicle to about 55%, until it reaches 10 V. See that on discontinuous, current reaches 5,3 A. On continuous, it reaches only 1,5 A.

Why not use a solid state device for this? The transistors ain't gonna bite ya.

Transistors on high side is a bit more complicated to use. The idea was not to complicate, so i kept things other things as simples as possible.
