High basis-emitter current of first example will destroy the transistor when switch is closed. That's more than 10 Amperes through transistor base. You may want to throttle current, using a resistor.

Also the load is usually connected to collecto,, Drain,, in your pnp type lamp (load) ought to be placed in collector circuit.
