A true random number generator (RNG). This uses the reverse biased diode trick plus the thermal noise from all the big resistors combined with the amplifier’s gain of 117dB (708kV/V) to produce a truly random RNG. That’s enough gain to produce a 7V signal from 10uV noise.

Where is the node with all the noise being generated?

@lssacsutt I would guess at the capacitor nearest the power supply

The diode is of main interest. However, all components do produce noise even resistors.

The diode makes most of the noise and the voltmeter takes the readings of the amplified noise. I didn’t put anything on the oscilloscope because noise isn’t generated in EC.

Oh I see. So aside from what EC can show us, there should be much more noise than this, considered to be white noise, right

Therefore, it is not a true random number generator since such a mechanism does not exist!
