Not really AM modulation. The amplitude of the wave is not changing. It should get stronger and weaker. This is only going up and down, at the same strength.

Thanks for letting me know! I remembered this from times past as example of AM modulation. Maybe I confused this with something else?

This modification should be improvement. I do not have way to test real life 555 output wave.
