when the switch is off, there is no signal. Swap out the switch with a photoresistor and you get a dark sensor.
you can use the potentiometer to "pretend" you are daylight resistance
When this circuit is used correctly, along with a 4.2 micro-controller, drone battery, and 6pV homemade solar panel, it makes for a nice solar nightlight. If the micro-controller is placed right on your prototype, you can recharge it with a cell phone charger too.
(extra note, the potentiometer is attached intentionally so that non-members can test it, it's not really that important)
