This circuit uses a capacitor as a timer. Changing the capacity of the capacitor changes the time the LED is on for. Press the switch to start/reset the circuit.
microfarads= 3 seconds
microfarads= 10 seconds
microfarads= 15 seconds
microfarads= 30 seconds

Why did you put a reverse biased diode at collector to ground, there's no need for it..?
