Basic LED sim with NPN's and a NOT using a 5V source.
Click switch to change mode
The gate switch will can be swapped for RPI GPIO pin.
To prevent unnecessary switching of an N-Channel FET in place of the NPN just use a 10-100k ohm pulldown on the gate.
