You use them mostly when you need to switch higher currents on medium frequencies. Their on-state-resistance can get really low, so they do not create so much heat like a BJT does. Also, there does not need to flow a current from gate to ground to switch. Using a MOSFET is kinda obvious, you need to put the gate high (only n type, gate must be ground level when you use a p channel) for current to flow from drain to source. Hurz can answer the last question, because I dont know.

Irfp250 is like 240. 240 has lower input capacitance while higher Rdson both in factor 2 or 1/2 so if you need higher speed and can live with higher Rdson take irfp240 else irfp250.

@LeButch Ah, thanks. This is convenient @hurz Thank you for the example!! I was able to configure a 30N06L in EC!! Thanks to everyone else for the info!!! Also, one last question @hurz , I don't exactly understand how lambda, KP, the width, and the length are configured. Do I just plug in random numbers until I get Rdson? Any formulas?

Mess with length and width and KP as you want for Rdson. Thats the reason I like to code the product number into them to later quickly recognize what I have for a mosfet. Lambda for such a big power mosfet you can set very small e.g. 2m1/V cause the operating point you can only keep for microseconds or the transistor will explode. Read the articel again.
