Hello, why have you used transistor please?

A transistor would be used to limit the current draw from the output pin thus protecting the device. A 10k biasing resistor would probably be a better choice.

I used a BC337 and it works well with an 1ko. The current difference between 1k and 10k would be only 2mA (with a 47o on the LED)

Quite a weak transmitter. Standard IR diode driver do that a little different and overdrive the diode current, but only in microseconds. Cuz, current is light intensity and as long the chip temperatur is low enough you can almost pump 100 times more current then nominal specified! Only this way you will have an acceptable range of control.

I don’t need range. It’s only used to “teach” codes to universal remote from 2-4 inches.

But it’s always good to know about how IR LED works.

So headline suppose to be "ultra low range IR transmitter"?

to be honest, this was made for my own use and didn't think anyone will pay attention to it :D

just for fun, i tested it and even from about 3m it still works. so not so "ultra low" :D

Sun includes plenty of IR spectrum.
