A resistor resists voltage and in turn the current. Its like a tap, which reduces pressure and in turn the flow reduces. In this circuit, the battery output is 1.5 v and the resistor is 10.1 ohms. The formula is V=IR, therefore I=V/R...... I = 1.5 / 10.1 =149 miliamps.
