Because first order DSM are not much better then PWM do a second order one. Then it gets interesting

The buck converter itself is for the robot because the little 160W converter that it uses now nearly exploded under a 18 mg995 servos load!!

As far as I know his hexapode is rather small and an arduino DUE wont fit in the robot itself, there is nearly no space left, and he clearly can't sell the robot.
