In this example, they are examples of voltage divider circuits and current dividers respectively.
In the first three resistors in series create escalation in voltage 3V divisions (9V, 6V and 3V). The current flowing through the circuit is the same, 3mA.
In the second circuit, three resistors in parallel make the division of current in 1mA which together result in 3 mA. The voltage in this circuit is 9V.
