It is used to check continuity (to check if there is connection or not between two points. It is present in DMM.)
connect your component in place of SPST.(while performing practical)
If there is fault in your component or wire  the LED will not glow, if it is OK, the LED will be turned on.
**you can also use speaker in place of LED
