You are on the right track, not quite there yet. Adjust the time base to 1 second, if the circuit works there it will probably work in the real world. I would suggest that a low current led (1.7V @ 2mA) is used for this circuit, after all the battery is almost dead. A led resistor to limit the current. A capacitor to hold and smooth the pulse, a diode allow the capacitor to hold the charge. Adjust the circuit values for best results. http://everycircuit.com/circuit/5336765076602880

Thanks for the advice. It was my first circuit with EveryCircuit and I was wondering why the diode was flashing. I made the circuit IRL with a white led without capacity nor led nor problem while taking almost random resistors as an experiment :) I should check the signals with an oscilloscope to see the improvement with the capacitor. I suppose it will flash less even if my eyes have noticed nothing.
