This lacks protection circuitry, but as long as the transistors can handle the load and are provided with a sufficient heat sink and the circuit is assembled correctly it should, hopefully, not explode in your face. You could probably draw more than 5A from the circuit without the output voltage dropping or even without the transistors exploding violently, but it is not recommended for what I believe to be obvious reasons.

?zener resistor could be 360ohms.

I like this circuit, it is basically how a lot of cheap power supplies are built, the query about the zener comes from the way EC likes 13.6mA through the zener to give the devices nominated voltage, also it allows for a bit more sag in the supply voltage under load.

Yes, EC does like 13.6mA, but 4mA or 5mA should work fine too.
