ac to dc for led power pls help

hello i want to be able to light up 40 white leds by ac 120 volt will this work ??? or what else is needed ??? is the capaciter right ??? pls help :)

that's pretty close. You'll want an isolation transformer on the mains side in case something goes wrong. each series string of leds needs a constant current source/sink on it, otherwise imperfections in each led may cause one in a series to draw more current and cause an avalanche

It will explode because it needs to be designed for 170 volts. 120 volts is rms. Considering you didn't know that, maybe you don't know to fuse it, or that you can't touch it.

The best start is step down transformer, it will be much easier and safer to work with around 12 volts.
