Due to the way they are constructed, real life MOSFETs have an internal body diode as shown here. This makes it so that they only work in one direction and trying to use it in the other direction will make large currents flow as shown regardless of the voltage at the gate. This is useful in some circuits but is undesired behavior in most others.
