The way to juice as much power from a class A amp and increaae its efficiency is to decouple the load with a transformer rather than a capacitor. Now the efficiency is 26% but another issue has arisen. The frequency reaponse is quite poor. The low end is 40Hz (with significant attenuation). The high end is 20Khz (barely) after which the distortion increases. Output power is 30W and the power draw is 116W.

I want to build a hi fi quality class A amp with hexfets because they are common and cheap and operate more in the linear region biased in class A. However, all the circuits I try either have low output or have massive DC offset or the bias has little or no effect. Ive tried Pass labs PLH as well as the original JLH also Rod Elliots designs. When I put the Spice parameters into the transistors it all goes pair shaped! Question: Why, Is this simulator reliable or am I better off with LTSpice. Thanks, Phil
