Rall Unbalanced LED Flasher with FET

Two LEDs are powered by a battery and each draw the same wattage from the battery, but if the central switch is closed, extra current, seemingly from the inductor, circulates through the right LED when the FET ceases to conduct, but ideal inductors don't use any real power. This circuit takes some time to begin to oscillate. Why doesn't the same wattage from the battery cause equal brightness of the LEDs when the switch is closed? Where does the energy to effect the additional brightness come from? If from the inductor, why would the inductor use extra wattage only when the switch is closed?
