How to build 2 To 3 wire Trailer Converter

I'm trying to build a trailer converter for a 4 post flat trailer plug which is basically a 3 wire setup running the tail, brake and turn signals so I am trying to build a circuit to use the existing harness but change the lights so I have 1 tail, 1 brake, 1 turn light per side. I apologize for asking for so much and I know I can build all of it once someone suggests because im struggling to determine which circuits to use, for example: i'm not sure how to take a signal {1 wire} that will run the brake light tail light and a turn signal light so they function as they should - function normal. Thank you for any positive information

There are wiring diagrams on the web for the standard connectors used in trailer connections, I would recommend that you stick to those, use the one for the connector that you use. it will keep you out of trouble.

Yes BillyT is so correct! Having wired many trailers over the years just Google 4-wire trailer plug and you will be off and running with less headache.

Might see what kits U-Haul offers? They used to conversions to connect or tap vehicle light wires.

I've searched embarrassingly hard for a 2 to 3 wire converter diagram so I can build it but I havent found one but I will keep looking. Thank you though

Trailer companies are source of diagrams. UHaul had tap-a-light years ago when I worked with them. A basic boat trailer source: https://www.boatus.com/magazine/trailering/2014/april/trailer-wiring-care.asp. In RC turn signals you may need heavy duty flasher and flash rate my change with increased circuit load.

What type vehicle is pulling the trailer? And what type trailer is it? Two axles ?Trailer brakes on one of the axles? Or just single axle? I'm sure we can all help with a bit more info. IF YOU HAVE TRAILER BRAKES, take it to a professional shop for safety purposes.

wyoelk. I actually ordered the converter for my single axle boat trailer because I fully understand the need for a fully developed converter or do I say a refined setup that is very water, weather proof because I live in nebraska right now and I use it most during the winter which is stupid brutal conditions... I actually have a degree in electronics so i'm supposed to know what i'm doing but I havent used the any of it for 9 years so what I am really wanting to do build the required setup for the knowledge, i'm trying to get myself fired back up so I can relearn what i'm actually still paying for. lol I really liked school and learning but I am struggling getting started so I thought i'd start here with this software (which is so nice)but I am 2nd guessing how to create the right circuits

I'm wanting to use ic's - logic so I was going to do a truth table I believe once I retrain myself

Might seem like a lot of steps, but really pretty simple. Maybe the circuit will help. http://everycircuit.com/circuit/6478926554333184

In Google type "American trailer wiring", look at the diagrams.
