Yes it will work good but you need a 5W resistor

Perhaps it's better if you use a capacitor in series to led, 0,1 uF 400 vcc working voltage to dissipate less power using capacitor reactance

Xc= 1/(6.28*f*c) you can set Xc=10Kohm, f=50Hz and find c value in your case, but it's better to have also a little resistor in series too to avoid current peak, 100 or 200 ohm 1/2 watt. And a diode type 1n4007 to protect led from inverse current.
