The Lockhart wavefolder circuit, a popular nonlinear waveshaping circuit in analog synthesizers, was designed by R. Lockhart Jr. in 1973 and is based on the concept of using a transistor's saturation characteristics to create a complex waveform by essentially "folding" the input signal, making it a key element in the "West Coast" style of analog synthesis; its design was originally published in the magazine "Electronics Design" as a "Nonselective Frequency Tripler" circuit.
