An illustration of a complete MW-band superheterodyne AM receiver. The first stage is the combined heterodyne and frequency converter. The last stage with the Darlington pair (or a super-beta transistor) is the IF amplifier combined with the reflex AM detector. This stage amplifies both IF and the sound frequency. The inductor and the 2k resistor at the output represent the high-impedance headphones.
