A neg-base voltage turns on an PNP transistor. A pos-base voltage turns on a NPN transistor.
I added a push-pull (3rd from the left) and a pull-push(last on the right) circuits. Combining the 4 circuits on the left in certain ways will give you push pull circuits as shown on the right.
