The top circuit when the parallel switch is closed doesn't load so the current in the light bulb see the blue graph. The bottom circuit when the parallel switch is closed does load down the current in the light bulb because of the 1 ohm resistor in series, see the green graph. A little loss in the electrical wire or internal resistance in the battery can cause a slight brown out.
