The basic circuit is not too bad, the 100k resistor is counterproductive to the circuit. The 555 could have handled the LED load with out the transistor. In using the transistor the capacitor on the base causes distortion, particularly when the correct biasing and led current limiting resistors are used. @BillyT for the 100k resistor I m not sure. The transistor with capacitor on its base needs to make LED not just flashing but fading up/down

Ok, not knowing about the fading, but the led current is a bit small, change capacitor for 68 uF, (current spikes a bit high, but getting a 80 uF capacitor is a bit hard), definitely get rid of the resistor.
