Pocket Tesla Coil

Uses a 1.5V AA battery as the power supply. It draws small amount of current. Low parts. For transistor I will use a 2N2222, since I have so many lying around unused. The 1pF cap simulates the air parasitic capacitence. Question: Could you use this as a lighter?

what is air parasitic capacitance?

Parasitic capacitance is capacitence which is unavoidable due to an objects' properties. When I say air parasitic capacitance it means the capacitence of the air.

Where buy or how made transformer coil?

You can make it by using either 12 or 8 AWG insulated copper wire as the primary and for the secondary use 20 uninsulated AWG copper wire. You can find the number of turns by finding the height of the secondary and dividing it by the diameter of the wire, this case 20 AWG which is 0.032 inches in diameter. Multiply this by the number of turns and you get your secondary height, which would be 0.64 inches at the minimum with a coupling coefficient of 1, meaning perfect spacing and no gaps. Which is why I say a minimum.

Also, if you want to use a spark gap, my recommendation is to use a maximum gap of 6 mm, if that doesnt work, keep closing the spark gap

sorry, but all you saying doesn't sound very logical. Spark gap? Another one? You already explained where the air capacitance come from and now you let a spark gap be optional? 20 AWG multiplied with turns? What shall this be for a length? A diameter of a wire multiplied with turns.... ? 0.64 inches are about 1.6cm, not much. 1.6cm how are they related to the coupling coefficient, thats totaly strange. Coupling coefficient does depend on so many parameters not just how nice the windings are. Can you clafrify?

Again insulted because someone asks more deeply what you are talking? Is that a problem for you, and if yes why?

Insulted? I will say this one time and one time only. Unlike some users, I am not on here every day. I do not check this daily. I have things to do like a normal human and problems to resolve. Where you got the idea that I'm insulted, I have no idea. And now, to clarify what I said. No not another one, I said that in a way that makes it "optional". This circuit is meant to be used with a spark gap. I get what you said how it didn't make sense about the coupling coefficient. What I read was that the spacing isn't the only factor, as there are other factors which I haven't quite understood but I hope to clarify with reading more and maybe building this circuit in real life. And if you think I have a problem when someone speaks more in depth than I am about a subject, you are very wrong. In fact, it encourages me to learn more about the subject. Thank you for understanding.

your answers just sounds like you know what you are talking. "sounds" but from content they are not and newbie answers. So why not say, "i dont know" instead you say "do bla bla bla... and you have it" you should know thats not the case. For this you must understand it yourself. Wow, and transformers are a really very very complex and difficult topic! Ask if you have questions and you get answers you can use next time if you get asked.

Alright thanks for the help. And also, do you think it could be used as a lighter, like to put pater on fire?

sure, but for a ligther there are easier methodes without battery
