A simple variation I accidentally came upon. This circuit seems to be more stable than others of it's type that I have seen.

Your circuit could work exactly the same with one less component. Having two 1K ohm resistors isnt necessary. Instead use just one 500 ohm resistor. You see, your circuit as it is now has both 1k ohm resistors wired in parallel with each other. When two resistors of the same value are parallel, its the equivalent of one resistor with half the value. If the values arent equal, the resistance is found by the formula R = 1 / (1/R1 + 1/R2).
