It happens for all series circuits; isn't it? For parallel wouldn't need a step down transformer or an equivalent? BTW, thanks ranjithgowda for sharing your very straight and simple circuit :) Regards.

@Khwartz, and why this circuit gives us the impression its a comination of series and parallel? But you are right, its not!

with 50hz AC frequancy you never see the leds blinking

@mido20 Its blinking with 100Hz and our eyes will see as its constantly on!
