Most everyone has all the parts laying around the bench, give this a try. I use this to drive a solid state relay for one of my projects.

You don't need that business at pin 7 if you just take your output from pin 3.. you know, the one labelled "out". Also that cap across the supply is a fine idea irl but in the sim it's not doing anything unless you also model some source impedance.

J the 555 has been around for probably longer than you, I'm sure you know a few things but let's be clear not everything. Breadboard the circuit both ways with a scope. See which is more effective with mosfet and bjt. Thanks 👍 get back to me with your results.

J, Let me spell this out for you. Look at the internal design of the 555. The output pin is a reference pin between 1/3 and 2/3 supply voltage. Pin 7 is a reference to ground. We know that mosfets are voltage operated device, so a hard reference to + and gnd insured a on or off state of the mosfet. Do your homework next time and thanks for playing.
