I plan on making a sort of Christmas light rope and having every pair of leds being the eyes of a rat bat or spider.

I thoight abiut that but i would need 16 1.5v batteries to compmeat the circuit i was thinking about a 24v dc adaptor and modifying it.

Its also working for 24V. But if you prefer a mains plug for continues supply its ok. I just thougth about battery operation. Again check my circuit, cuz it does generate the voltage you need.
