Building this exact circuit. I’m using a homemade capacitor of paper plates, plastic bags, and foil. I’m using a 6kv neon sign transformer and a secondary with about 1500 turns and an empty can of beans for the top load. Enjoy!

I don't know if I am wrong but 10H is too much; power transformers have these values. If you're using a ferrite core transformer, use values of the uH range. If you're using an air core transformer, use values of the nH range. Change the frequency to a higher operational frequency (are you using a 60Hz supply for your tesla coil?) . Depending on the primary inductance, uou should change the input frequency. That is because the inductive reactance of the transformer and the reflected impedance are in parallel to each other. So in order to not load your source very much, you should not mix low frequency sources and low inductance values. Depending on that inductance, you may change the capacitor to a lower value. Note that as the no. of turns increase, the secondary resistance of EC's transformer also increase. Hope this helps! Any corrections and clarifications will be received politely.

sure 10H is absolut unrealistic high. with a 1:1000 ratio the secondary would have an impedace of 10000000H !!! together with 1pF it give fantastic 50Hz as resonance, LOL

Oh, I didn't think of that. But usually for circuits, I add a cap. only to the primary side.

Thats because in that case, the damping factor is difficult to stabilize.

In this case, the secondary inductance greatly supercedes the primary inductance. But I like to run tesla coils at 22kHz so that I can use a ZVS driver.

When are you going to build this " exact " circuit?????? Thank you

@hurtz I did more research on the subject of spark gap tesla coils and got a neon sign transformer from someone off of Craigslist. After some careful tuning I got it to work and it produces streamers of plasma up to 2 feet long. I couldn’t have done it without your constructive criticism. Thanks for everything.
