Wrong way to use ground to wire a 3-way switch

14/2 has 3 wires in it. When wiring this on the protoboard, correctly wire the ground to all junction boxes. Then, you don't need the neutral wire (the white one). It's wrong. It's probably illegal. But it works.

Very illegal, any building inspector catches this, whoever did that job is probably getting fined lol

Illegal yep, dangerous as wow. Even if all junction boxes are connected by EMT conduit. 14/2 comes in two configurations, with ground or without. The two wire(black and white) can only be used for simple light bulbs. With ground for multi switch circuits, if properly marked at all junction and connection points, and any circuits with motors, tools, appliances, etc ...
