Instead of an OpAmp IC it is a basic OpAmp circuit that uses a Differential Amp with a Current Mirror and a Common Collector at its final stage.

A simple SR latch would sap all the current from the supply, so a low current SR was needed with a Common Collector to boost the output.

What about the RS latch, why not as BJT solution? Could be Interessting to make an minimalistic 555.
