It has a gain of 10V/V. I’ve tried increasing the gain of the amplifier but it always became too sensitive to the value of the 74.2Ω resistor (it had to be 70Ω ± 0.1% to work properly with a gain of 100V/V).

A single ended transistor feeding a current sink. The PNP is highly beta sensitive, try it yourself.

Oops. I guess that’s an issue. I’m not really sure how to fix that without a complete redesign.
