500khz signal is carried by 8khz carrier wave using opamp and is demodulated with lowpass filter and the signal is being extracted out with little phase shift

You actually just mixed two signals (kind of) and then filtered one back out. That's a very good start to modulation, but doesn't really count. Modulation implies that the modulating signal is changing some property of the carrier. Mathematically, you kind of need to be multiplying some two parameters together to be performing modulation; adding is not enough. For example, in amplitude modulation you are actually directly multiplying your carrier and modulator amplitudes together whereas in frequency modulation the modulating signal controls only the frequency of the carrier. Those are the most commonly talked about but there are new schemes coming out all the time. It's a fascinating field that gets extremely clever. I recommend using Desmos to explore the math too. Have fun.

Do I smell a ring mixer project?
